I’ve noticed in the last three weeks that I have been constantly hungry.  Now, at first I blamed it on my cycle… I tend to crave foods more so during that the 3rd week.  Well, 3rd week went by and I was still hungry.  So, what is going on?

I started the gym when I first moved back to Maine.  It was something that I had promised myself all during grad school.  When I finally got a real job, and was making money and was on a normal schedule, I would go to the gym.  I would make an effort to focus on my health.  I do make healthy eating choices, but did very little by way of exercise.

So, the gym. The Y.  The money pit that I try to visit atleast 3 times a week for the minimum of 40 mins.  All mood dependent. Of course.  The first month was iffy.  I was nervous… busy getting used to work etc.  However, January has been more successful.  Yet,  I’ve tried on my ‘skinny’ jeans, and well, yeah, I’m not skinny yet.  lol.  So, what the F?

I’m going to the gym. I’m eating reasonably well.  I don’t buy pepsi for the house. I don’t buy chips, ice cream, or any relative ‘junk’ food.  My morning snack usually is a piece of cheese. My afternoon snack is carrots and cottage cheese.  I eat spinach 3 times a week b/c I love it. WHAT THE F?

And so, I’ve gone ahead and done it.  The dreaded, cursed examination of food intake.  I have become a calorie counter (gag).  To examine my eating trends, I’ve decided to track for a month my eating habits to determine where/when/if I’m going down the wrong road.  And so far, I’ve decided that I’m just not eating enough food.  How bizarre.  Its also difficult to assess calories when most of your cooking is from scratch and not processed or store bought.  But I’m making the effort.  So I shall see if this leads to any insightful findings for my future health program.  I’m using the daily plate, fyi.

I wanty!

So… I ran across this blog and was introduced to the ever so practical octopus cake pan.

Yes, I happen to be a marine biologist AND I also happen to bake alot of cakes for my friends.   I think someday this might be a wasteful, yet fun, purchase.

While up in Toronto visiting my brother et al.,  I bought a new toy with the money my Aunt had given me to buy something “nice” with. And what did I buy?

Cooking is a marvelous hobby, and I’ve been dying to have one of these for a couple of years now.  However, the ‘nice’ ones are rather expensive and would be a frivalous purchase – then again so was my Le Creuset.  Meh, whatever.  I finally have my mandolin and I’m thinking of all the fun things I can do with it – such as tempura sweet potatoes!

Oh my… I WANT TO GO!

This is an amazing idea! Cooking vacations! I so want to do it….  I think I’d go to Italy first… then Spain. Oh my, how amazing.  France!  Would I take my Le Creuset with me? lol.  Beautiful – this is now on my life list. (Which is still fictitious at this moment.)

I love love love homemade breads – but it is a pain in the ass for a couple of reasons.  The primary reason is:  one person can not eat (err should not) so much bread by themselves.

Well, Baking Bites just solved my problem.  I was wondering about this, and now I know.  Doughs can be frozen for short periods of time in good ol’ zippies with a splash of oil.  BAKE ON!

What to eat with Lobster?

How exciting.  I’ve got two girls who’ve never had lobster before.   Instead of suggesting a restaurant to eat – which I’m certain Halifax has plenty, I’ve offered to cook for them.   Lets be serious,  it wouldnt be a proper meal if they didn’t enjoy lobster the proper way – i.e. bibs, butter and butcher knives .

But, what else does go with lobster?  I was rather stumped on this.   Usually we have it alone, but sometimes with potato salad.   Is there anything else?  What do you have with your lobster?

I’ll definitely need to post pictures from this experience.

As per 4 blogs ago … Screw you JCPenny.com, I just ordered a 9pc Le Creuset cookware set for 300$. How utterly impulsive considering my student lifestyle. BAD GIRL.  JCPenny.com did offer the red 7 pc still for $200.  I’m sorry, but it had to be blue…and for the extra hundred bucks, I am now getting a bigger dutch oven and a casserole dish. SWEET!

Warning, enter my kitchen at your own risk.  LOL
